Holy shit, sounds pretty promising.

I'd heard about this in person but thought it was just another one of those bullshit homeopathy things where some guy claims to channel Jesus to cure cancer or uses some kind of weird plant.

Let's hope it's not a hoax. If they can find a decent cure and make it mainstream within the next 10 years when I'll surely have started amassing my vast fortune, I'd feel very good about the world.

Indeed. And this "cure" is so painfully obvious I'm not sure what took so long for them to do this.

My main worry though is that the mainstreaming of this will probably be prevented by drug companies. Why cure people when they could continue treating them and make billions more? Wouldnt be surprised.

Don't give me any of that bullshit conspiracy theory. Too many rich people/intelligent scientists have lost loved ones to cancer. You might have 10 people out there at the top somewhere earning a lot of money off this but once this hits the news it'll be fine. Don't forget that this isn't even a CURE for cancer. It's a treatment. You'll still be able to get cancer. The pharmaceutical companies will market this just like they market chemotherapy, so if anything they get MORE business because chemo is nasty shit.

And it's not painfully obvious, you can say "let's make other cells find cancer cells" but to actually do that takes quite a bit of work as they explained in the articles. If you'll see it took them several years to even get this far and they still have years ahead of them.

I hope you're right Fido, but I wouldnt be surprised if there were payoffs involved. Im glad this hit the news though so hopefully it'll come to fruition.

And I only read the article I linked and watched that vid, didnt read the abc article.

But yeah, the overall concept of extracting T-cells, inserting harmless HIV into the cells, and injecting the patient, and letting the immune system do its job... sounds pretty simple. I'm sure that video oversimplified it though.

How do you know which is the right one for the right strain, assuming it's there in the first place? Chances are you just go to the doctor every year, taking whatever you're offered.

yea, youre right, it sucks that they are making breakthroughs towards eventually curing cancer once and for all, hopefully before I hit 60, which is when it usually hits members of my family.

I don't understand you complete pessimists who say cancer research is pointless because some people make money off cancer. What a fun existence you must lead, hating the world and seeing evil at every turn, even in cancer breakthroughs. I don't know how this sort of existentialist stasis pessimism still exists because you'd think you'd all be chasing bullets through your head. Humanity has overcome or found a way to make bearable every problem it's ever faced and you guys think if they find a true cure for cancer the economy will trump it?

The best way to beat cancer right now is to be preemptive with what you consume. Of course, people just want a magic pill or laser to cure everything that they have problems with, so w/e, not my problem.
