| I read a really good article about why COD is so poular (and games like it)
Basicly it says that it appeals to 2 huge audiences-
the Teens and pree teens who are insanely fickle. Cod and its flashy rewards "ZOMG u gots XXXX" combined with a fast track to leveling up and very easy to understand game play keep them interested for a long time. the E-peen boosting "prestige" also appeals to many young players who are compete ting with thier friends.
The second audience isn't any one age group but rather the more casual fraggers- Again it's easy to pick up and play solo. Game like BF2 and especially PR and ARMA you're pretty much MANDATED to join a big-shot clan of armchair generals to enjoy it as it REQUIRES a strategic, coordinated approach. Simply joining and attack the enemy will only get you killed and cost your team assets.
Games like these tend to appeal to us "no-lifers" who spend 5+ hours a day on a single game for 3 or more years, play with the same people every single day, and work out every map down to s science. It's a much smaller number of people who are going to do this. |

I could argue that this is fundamentally flawed, In much the same way democracy is...
No everyone who buys something really understands the nuts and bolts of it to determine that it is infact "better". Just the same as when you have a bunch of un-educated morons, or people only concerned with Self-interest wieging in on matters of nation and state- they likely aren't qualified to have a (official) opinion on the matter.
Popularity alone does not = Quality. |

Nothing to do with me liking it or not, I DGAF about COD I dont play it since I just dont like how it plays, plus the no vehicles part is what really puts me off, destruction+vehicles is what make BC2 better for me, if COD had those Id play COD |

| Same I think the only thing CoD's missing is driveable vehicles. I know they're on their way there though (maybe 7 games from now in 2013). And I know when they get there they'll do them better than Battlefield. Because they suck kinda a lot in BF, which is why the whole vehicle thing kinda lost its luster. |

I dont mind the vehicles in BC2 they work fine for me, if COD does come out with that then I will def buy a COD game |

| BC2 just kinda fucked itself over with the whole hit detection (both from bullets, and objects, and in vehicles) crap. Would've been a good game if that worked. Ugly, but good.

IMO they are doing a good job of making the game more accessible while not making it pure twitchfest.
What PC players (that core audience) NEED to be asking for, instead of removing the accessibility (cause that ain't happenin, DWI), is to have fully customizable private servers to create your own Normal/HC hybrid.
Console Private matches should also have those same toggles which would allow leagues to come up with custom rules.
THAT is something they can provide without hurting their bottom line.

people like to play different ways.... what they need is to allow people to play any hybrid between the 2 that they want... though consoles that would be limited to Private Matches since we don't have private servers (or server browsers)_________________ |

This. Much as I dislike it, CoD sells well not because the consumer base don't know about BF, but because they're not interested in it. CoD 4 introduced a very smart, very addictive format that continues to hook people. |

| People are fucking idiots in general.
So therefore a game that everyone likes is pretty likely to fucking blow IMO, and a game that only a select few like, but like A LOT, is far more likely IMO to be something special.

Army of Two the 40th Day - Last time I checked, it had 200 players online lawl
...It's a fun game in co-op though but most of the co-op actions (open a door, step jump etc) feel really pointless and seem like they've been put into the game just to "artificially" make the campaign last longer. |

Just so long as EA lets us rank said servers with that Shit turned off. Actually they should just Tear up the ROC for server owners.. i mean Jesus fucking christ- if people don't like the server rules find a different server. No one needs EA policing what privately owned servers do. |
